Help Bats by Drinking Coffee

Pretty simple right? We partnered with Bat World Sanctuary an amazing non-profit that rescues, rehabilitates, and educates the public on our adorable flying friends. Purchasing a limited micro-lot of coffee from Indonesia each bag sold gives $4 dollars to this sanctuary so they can continue doing their great work!

About Bat World Sanctuary

Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the mistreatment of bats.  Each year they rescue hundreds of bats who might otherwise die. Lifetime sanctuary is given to non-releasable bats, including those that are orphaned, injured, and rescued from the exotic pet trade, zoos and research facilities. Bat World was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 non-profit, accredited organization with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.

Farm Notes

Wolo Wio is a blend of coffees from five neighboring towns in the Ngada District of Flores. The name basically means “peak” or “hill”, which we’re using becase the five towns – Wolo Wio, Tubu Tana, Watu Ata, Leko Pake, and Wawo Wae – represent some of the higher elevations in this volcanic region (near Wawo Muda, the active volcano).

They’re part of a coordinated effort to unite coffee growers from neighboring villages in a coffee farmers cooperative called Primavera. Primavera operates out of Kampung Wolo Wio (“Kampung” means village more or less), run by a local, Om Leo Suri.

Most of the coffees are processed on hand cranked or motorized depulping machines on the farm, fermentation in small tanks, and then drying on raised drying beds. Because of the nutrient rich soils, they are able to grow coffee using fully organic farm practices, though they are not certified at this time. They are also working on the process of becoming Ranforest Alliance Certified and by supporting these farms we can help them further this cause!

Another reason to help? Look how cute they are!
